Chennai: A remark made from the DMK side during a discussion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly was withdrawn after the Speaker produced documentary references from earlier proceedings.
During the debate, Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi referred to announcements made by the Chief Minister under Rule 110. He said he had stated that a former Chief Minister from his party had not made announcements under Rule 110.
Udhayanidhi told the House that Speaker Prabhakar presented old Assembly records showing that the announcements in question had indeed been made under Rule 110. He then said he was withdrawing his earlier statement.
Speaker Prabhakar appreciated the Opposition Leader for retracting the remark after being shown the evidence, and noted the gesture as an act of fairness in the House.
