Chennai: Actor Ajith Kumar has congratulated Chief Minister Vijay for giving priority to sports, particularly motorsports, and wished success for the government’s initiatives.
In a statement made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly under Rule 110, CM Vijay said the state has a conducive environment to develop world-class car racing, including setting up car manufacturing units and supporting ancillary industries. He said building international-standard motorsport arenas could strengthen tourism, generate employment and improve the economy.
The Chief Minister also announced that a new “Motorsports City” will be created to promote sports tourism and encourage interest in motorsports among Tamil Nadu’s youth through training. The proposed city is to include an international-grade racing track, modern infrastructure and training facilities, with plans to host competitions from Formula 1 to Formula 4.
Reacting to the announcement, Ajith—who is involved in car racing—said the government’s efforts to attract young people to sports, identify talent and develop it systematically are commendable. He said the Motorsports City announcement made him particularly happy.
Ajith also adapted a famous quote associated with astronaut Neil Armstrong, describing the move as “one small step by the Tamil Nadu Government, one giant leap for Indian motorsports,” and extended his heartfelt wishes for the success of the Chief Minister’s sports initiatives.
