A stormy scene unfolded in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as ministers and DMK MLAs traded allegations over law and order, triggering repeated interruptions during the debate.
During the discussion on the police department’s grant demands, Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi said the Chief Minister still had three days to respond and should come prepared. He insisted that CM Vijay, who holds charge of the department, must answer his questions directly.
Speaker Prabhakar intervened, noting that the Chief Minister was listening closely and had come ready to respond. He also reminded the House that the Cabinet functions on collective responsibility and that any minister can speak on behalf of the government.
Responding, CM Vijay said he would answer the questions on Monday and added that even if he was not present, he would be informed of what members asked and would provide a clear explanation. He then remarked that no one should “get up and run away” when he speaks.
Udhayanidhi countered that after saying others should not run away, the Chief Minister himself had left. Minister Rajmohan also joined the exchange, claiming the government had delivered an impartial and honest administration in its first 100 days, and referred to an earlier instance when Stalin, as Chief Minister, presented grant demands during Udhayanidhi’s tenure as Deputy Chief Minister.
