The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department informed the Madras High Court that audit reports covering the income and expenditure accounts of 4,292 temples across Tamil Nadu have been uploaded on its official website.

The submission was made during the hearing of a petition filed in 2023 by T.R. Ramesh, president of Indic Collective Trust, Mylapore, Chennai. The petitioner sought a direction to upload annual audit reports of all temples on the department’s website.

When the matter came up before a bench comprising Justices G. Jayachandran and E. Manoharan, Special Pleader R. Baranidharan, appearing for the department, said the reports for 4,292 temples had been uploaded so far and are open for public viewing.

He also told the court that accounts of temples with an income of less than Rs 10,000 are not audited, and that a detailed report would be filed next week. Recording the submission, the bench adjourned the case to next week.
