The Karappanpoochi Janata Party, a political outfit that rose to prominence through protests against NEET, has split into two factions. Manish Bramhat, who recently quit the organisation, has announced a new party under the name Karappanpoochi Janata Party – Jananayagam.
The movement began as a satirical initiative on social media, triggered by opposition to remarks attributed to the Chief Justice of India. Its founder, Abhijit Deepke, had earlier said that after returning to India from abroad, the group would organise protests against the NEET question paper leak.
Following that announcement, the outfit held a protest in Delhi against the alleged NEET paper leak. The report said the agitation led to the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Explaining the split, Bramhat alleged that the original party had turned into a selected team aligned with former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party. He claimed the group was focused on political bargaining rather than fighting for students or people from other states, and said supporters of the Jantar Mantar protest were not given opportunities within the organisation.
Bramhat also alleged that eight individuals chosen for the party’s core group had links with the Aam Aadmi Party, and that the outfit functioned only as per Kejriwal’s directions while positioning itself against the BJP mainly to back anti-BJP forces.
