A fire triggered by an electrical short circuit broke out at the Asian Hospital in the Akashwani area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, in the early hours of Thursday.
According to reports, the blaze started around 2.30 am in the hospital’s maternity ward. Nurses on duty acted swiftly and calmly, moving nine newborn babies out of the ward and shifting them to a safer area.
Hospital staff also alerted patients in other sections, including the ICU, and evacuated a total of 58 people from the premises. The fire department was informed immediately as the flames spread rapidly.
Firefighters reached the spot with three fire engines and brought the situation under control. No loss of life was reported, and police have begun an inquiry into the cause of the incident.
