Perambalur District Collector Sharanya Ari has ordered the suspension of Siddharthan (48), the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Veppur, over allegations of accepting a bribe from a contractor.
According to the report, the contractor had approached the BDO seeking payment of a bill amount for work already completed. The BDO allegedly demanded Rs 6,500 as a bribe.
The contractor is said to have paid Rs 4,500. The official then allegedly indicated—by writing on a piece of paper—that the remaining Rs 2,000 should also be paid.
The contractor posted a video related to the incident on social media, which went viral. Following this, the Collector issued orders suspending the BDO.
