Tamil Nadu’s decision to broadcast Assembly proceedings live has sparked wide public discussion, with many calling it a significant step toward more transparent governance. Residents say the live feed allows them to see how elected representatives speak and behave on the floor, without edited highlights.
Several viewers told reporters they watch whenever time permits—at home, at work, and even in tea shops and buses. Some said the telecast has increased political awareness, with families and even children following the proceedings on TV and mobile phones.
At the same time, a section of viewers expressed disappointment that discussions often focus on party credit-claiming, personal attacks, or arguments rather than people’s day-to-day problems. Some also felt ministers do not always give clear answers to opposition questions, leading to frequent disruptions.
Others said the live format helps citizens evaluate their own constituency MLA and compare how different members perform. While many want the broadcasts to continue, they believe the impact will be stronger if legislators speak more responsibly, knowing the public is watching.
