Tesla has launched a new driverless vehicle called the Cybercap at an event in Austin, Texas, drawing attention after months of anticipation.
The company kept the unveiling tightly controlled, with invitations limited to select attendees. The event was not broadcast via video conferencing, according to reports.
The electric vehicle is designed to operate without a driver and comes without a steering wheel or pedals. However, it includes passenger-accessible controls such as emergency stop options, including the ability to halt the car immediately using hazard lights. The car also features USB-C ports, cameras and door buttons.
Built as a two-seater, the Cybercap offers space for two bags and is designed for comfortable legroom. Users will be able to book it through a robotaxi service; once the car arrives, the trunk can be opened via an app, the doors open automatically as the user approaches, and a touchscreen inside allows adjustments to seating and temperature.
For now, the Cybercap is being deployed only in selected parts of Austin.
