New Delhi: During the probe into an alleged adulteration case involving Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) laddus, the CBI received inputs that some Devasthanam officials had amassed assets disproportionate to their known income. The information was shared with Andhra Pradesh anti-corruption police, who initiated action.
A case was earlier registered against Chinna Appanna, personal assistant to former TTD chairman Subba Reddy, on allegations of accumulating disproportionate assets.
As part of the ongoing action, simultaneous searches were conducted at four locations in Tirupati linked to TTD Deputy Executive Officer Lokanatham and his relatives. Officials said they seized documents related to a house and plots purchased in the name of Lokanatham’s wife.
Documents for a plot registered in his son’s name and records for four fixed deposits held in the names of Lokanatham and his son were also recovered. Police further said they seized documents for joint assets valued at Rs 31.9 lakh, along with 2 kg of gold, Rs 12.5 lakh in cash and 6.5 kg of silver.
The total value of the seized assets is estimated to be over Rs 5 crore, and a case has been registered under multiple sections, including for possessing disproportionate assets, the anti-corruption police said.
