Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the TVK government in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, saying the administration must answer questions directly instead of resorting to what he called “evasive arguments.” He urged Chief Minister Vijay to respond to the issues he raised.
Udhayanidhi alleged that in the 116 days since the TVK government took charge, the most frequent announcements were about renaming and dropping schemes. He also mocked the naming of welfare initiatives, saying the government was focusing more on labels than outcomes.
Citing law-and-order concerns, he claimed that during the same 116-day period there were 550 crime incidents, including 200 murders, 300 sexual assault cases, 10 honour killings and eight custodial deaths. He said the state was facing an “unprecedented” abnormal situation due to these issues.
He further alleged selective action against critics, claiming the government arrested those who criticised it while not registering a case against a BJP leader who made harsh remarks about the Chief Minister. He also accused the government of not permitting NEET-related protests at Marina and Besant Nagar beaches in Chennai.
Reiterating that the opposition’s role is to question the government, Udhayanidhi said it was the ruling administration’s duty to answer, and insisted that the Chief Minister respond plainly to the questions raised in the House.
