Unfilled seats in super speciality medical courses in Tamil Nadu, which were earlier transferred to the All India quota after state counselling, came up for hearing again in the Supreme Court.
The case was filed by the Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association, seeking the return of seats that were handed over to the All India pool but still remain vacant. The matter was heard by a bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha.
During the hearing, the Union government informed the court that all seats provided by Tamil Nadu to the All India quota that remain unfilled would be handed back to the state.
At the same time, the Centre stated that its position is that reservation should not be provided for government doctors in super speciality medical courses. Senior advocate P. Wilson, appearing for the association, strongly objected to this submission.
The court adjourned the hearing.
