New Delhi: HarperCollins India has announced that it will publish Congress veteran Sonia’s autobiography in India, after Penguin India withdrew from the project.
Sonia, 79, the widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, has written her life story as a book titled Blanking: A Journey of Love. The autobiography is set to run to 544 pages.
Internationally, the book is scheduled for release on November 10 by Penguin Random House, the US-based publishing group. In India, its imprint Penguin India was originally expected to publish it.
However, Penguin India sought changes and deletions in certain portions of the manuscript, which Sonia did not accept. The publisher later said it would not be bringing out the book in India, a move the Congress criticised as being driven by pressure from the BJP-led central government.
With questions raised over whether the book would appear as planned, HarperCollins India said in a social media post that it will publish the autobiography in India on November 10. Penguin is expected to handle publication outside India.
