New Delhi: Parliament’s standing committees, comprising MPs from multiple parties, routinely travel to different states to study issues on the ground and later submit consolidated reports with the help of parliamentary secretariat officials.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has now advised standing committee chairpersons to make it a point to meet the respective Chief Ministers during such visits, so that state development needs and key requirements can be discussed and reflected in Parliament.
According to the report, Birla specifically told members travelling to Tamil Nadu to meet Chief Minister Vijay, noting that he formed a party and captured power within two years, and that MPs could learn from his experience.
Following this, MPs from states such as West Bengal and Maharashtra who are part of standing committees are said to be keen on meeting Vijay, with some members reportedly having already met him.
The report also claims that videos about Vijay are being widely shared on social media in northern states, and that he is being described as a prominent Tamil Nadu leader there after MGR and Jayalalithaa. Party members are also said to be projecting him as a future prime ministerial contender.
