Dinamalar, founded on September 6, 1951 in Thiruvananthapuram, completed 75 years of publication on Friday. To mark the milestone, a commemorative postage stamp release event was held at the Valluvar Kottam auditorium in Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The programme began with Vande Mataram, the National Anthem and Tamil Thai Vazhthu. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chennai City Region Postal Director Major Manoj, Dinamalar Madurai publisher L. Ramasubbu, and Tirunelveli–Nagercoil publisher Jayasree Vaidyanathan lit the ceremonial lamp.
Associate Editor R. Krishnamurthy delivered the welcome address, followed by the screening of a documentary on the newspaper’s 75-year journey. Journalist Rangaraj Pandey spoke about the publication and its evolution.
The Vice President released the 75th anniversary commemorative stamp and the first-day cover. Dinamalar Coimbatore edition publisher L. Adhimoolam presented a shawl and memento to the Vice President, while Vellore edition publisher R.R. Gopalji honoured Major Manoj.
In his address, Radhakrishnan said running a newspaper is difficult and maintaining neutrality is even harder, describing Dinamalar as a “touchstone of truth.” He noted that the presence of leaders from different political parties at the event reflected the publication’s standing, and said he was pleased to release the special stamp and share his thoughts on the occasion.
