Dinamalar’s 75th anniversary (coral jubilee) was celebrated at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai, where a special exhibition was organised to present the newspaper’s journey from its launch to the present day.
The display reflected a long arc of Tamil journalism, featuring 111 notable editions through their lead front-page reports and editorials. Visitors were taken through key political and social shifts in Tamil Nadu and across India as captured in the paper’s archives.
The exhibition recalled Dinamalar’s beginnings on September 6, 1951, founded by T.V. Ramasubbaiyar, with its first issue carrying the Assembly passage of the Zamindari Abolition Bill. A major milestone highlighted was the paper’s campaign linked to the integration of Kanyakumari with Tamil Nadu, with the November 1, 1956 edition noted as a historic record and accompanied by congratulatory verses from poets.
It also showcased headline moments from subsequent decades, including the Hindi agitation period, the deaths of national leaders, the Emergency, and major leadership changes in Tamil Nadu politics. Alongside national milestones and tragedies—from the 2004 tsunami to the COVID-19 lockdown—the exhibition concluded with a 2026 political turning point in Tamil Nadu, as presented in the display.
A long-time reader quoted at the venue said the exhibition felt like stepping back in time and helped show how the newspaper served as a bridge across generations.
