Senior journalist and anchor Rangaraj Pandey on Saturday described Dinamalar as “a public property of the world” and said the truth would never change, speaking at the newspaper’s 75th anniversary coral jubilee celebrations in Chennai.
The event was held at the Valluvar Kottam auditorium in Nungambakkam. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan attended as a special guest, alongside several political leaders and prominent personalities. A special commemorative postal stamp marking the 75th year was released by the Vice President.
In his opening address, Pandey said he was “Dinamalar’s Rangaraj Pandey,” calling the newspaper his “mother home” where he was shaped professionally. He recalled spending nearly 16 years with the organisation across Madurai, Salem and Chennai.
He thanked the dignitaries present and said their participation was an honour for the publication. Pandey also gave an assurance that Dinamalar would continue to work to deliver accurate news.
Reflecting on the paper’s early years, he spoke about the limited space and constraints of newspapers in the past, when dailies ran only four or five pages and newsprint was regulated. He noted that Dinamalar began in Thiruvananthapuram, emerging as a Tamil voice amid hardships faced by large numbers of Tamils in the Travancore region, and said it was started to amplify the voice of the oppressed.
