Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised Dinamalar, saying the newspaper has been a witness to India’s development journey.
In a congratulatory message sent on the occasion of the daily’s 75th anniversary (coral jubilee), Modi said he was pleased to learn that Dinamalar has completed 75 years of service. He conveyed his greetings and appreciation to everyone associated with the newspaper and to its readers, noting that the release of a commemorative postage stamp adds to the significance of the celebrations.
Modi underlined the role of the media in society, saying it helps bring issues of social and national importance to the public, builds awareness and encourages citizen participation. He said Dinamalar, through decades of service, has not only observed the country’s progress but has also been a participant in that transformation.
He also spoke about the media’s responsibility in preserving and spreading India’s languages and traditional knowledge, highlighting Tamil’s special place in the country’s heritage. He said Tamil literature should reach younger generations so they can experience it and contribute to enriching the tradition.
Referring to initiatives such as the cleanliness movement, digital transactions and avoiding single-use plastic becoming people’s movements over the past decade, Modi said the media has supported positive change. He reiterated India’s resolve to build a “developed India” by 2047 and expressed confidence that Dinamalar would continue to encourage this goal in the years ahead.
