Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India is moving ahead rapidly under a policy of people-centric governance. He made the remarks while attending the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in New Delhi, held on Teachers’ Day.
The Prime Minister travelled to the venue by Metro and interacted with students and children during the journey, according to the event details.
In his address, Modi said India recorded quarterly growth of 7.8% despite war in West Asia and multiple trade challenges. He also pointed to a Japanese credit rating agency upgrading its assessment, saying it reflects India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
Highlighting infrastructure changes, he said less than 30% of railway routes were electrified between the launch of the first electric train in 1925 and 2014, but nearly 100% electrification has been achieved over the past 12 years.
On security, Modi said those spreading terrorism have been pushed back and warned that if Pakistan commits any mistake, the Indian Army would enter and strike. He added that peace has increased from Jammu and Kashmir to the Northeast, and claimed Maoists have been completely suppressed.
