New Delhi: The Union government has reiterated that India’s position on sovereignty and territorial integrity is clear and not open to compromise.
The statement came after the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the use of a new world map that reflects Africa’s true land area. The resolution was backed by 164 countries, while the United States opposed it.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India accepted the UN resolution, noting that it does not endorse or recognise any specific political map. He added that the resolution does not address international borders, disputed territories or place names.
Jaiswal underlined that areas under India’s sovereignty, including the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, must be depicted strictly in line with India’s official map. Any incorrect or misleading depiction, he said, is unacceptable.
He reiterated that India’s stance on sovereignty and territorial integrity remains firm and non-negotiable.
