The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has responded to objections raised in London over an upcoming programme featuring its chief, Mohan Bhagwat. Around 20 community organisations have written to London Mayor Sadiq Khan, urging that a venue should not be provided for the event.
Bhagwat is on an overseas tour linked to the RSS centenary. After visiting the United States and Canada last week, he has been attending various engagements in the United Kingdom since September 2.
A London event involving Bhagwat is scheduled for the day after tomorrow. Groups including the Britain-India Muslim Council and the South Asia Solidarity Group have voiced opposition and sent a letter to the mayor seeking to block the programme.
Responding to the criticism, RSS media in-charge Sunil Ambedkar said differing views are natural in a democracy and that multiple voices are expected. He said the organisation had come to the UK for peace, integration and unity.
Ambedkar added that the RSS is ready to hold talks with everyone and wants to openly explain who they are, what they think and their worldview. He said there is nothing to hide and that the organisation looks forward to an exchange of views and discussion.
