Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) will hold a meeting of alliance party leaders on September 9 at its headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai. Invitations have been extended to the Congress and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).

The earlier meeting of parties supporting the TVK government was held on July 1 under Chief Minister Vijay. On that occasion, the two Communist parties did not take part.

Ahead of the September 9 meeting, ministers Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Nirmal Kumar and Rajmohan visited the offices of the CPI and CPI(M) in T. Nagar, Chennai, to invite them. Ministers Anand and Aadhav Arjuna also met Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore at Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Royapettah.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Praveen Chakravarthy and Tamil Nadu minister Rajesh Kumar were present during the Congress meeting. Later, ministers Anand, Aadhav Arjuna and Arunraj met VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan at the party’s Ashok Nagar office.

Speaking to reporters, Manickam Tagore said Congress would participate in the September 9 meeting and that the alliance name would be finalised and announced there. Thirumavalavan said a decision would be taken at the meeting on forming an alliance under TVK’s leadership.
