Chennai: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh has said steps are being taken to create a hygienic environment in rivers.
His remarks came after a social media user flagged continued dumping of garbage into the Cauvery river and the practice of throwing old clothes into the water in the name of ritual cleansing.
The user specifically pointed to areas near temples in Bhavani, Kodumudi and Mohanur, alleging that such incidents are recurring.
Responding online, the minister said discussions have already been held on the issue and that action would be taken soon to ensure a cleaner environment.
