Chennai: Minister Adav on Monday alleged in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that the DMK, not his side, was behind an attempted “horse-trading” move involving the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). He said an inquiry would be conducted to find out who arranged accommodation for IUML MLAs at a Chennai hotel.
Referring to remarks made by Opposition leader Udhayanidhi outside the House, Adav said a speech had been “twisted” to level what he called a false allegation that his camp had tried to lure the Muslim League. He maintained that his side did not hold talks with individual MLAs.
Adav said that after his side secured victory, the Congress provided a letter of support. He noted that the Muslim League is part of a Congress-led alliance in Kerala and said discussions were held with Kerala Muslim League leaders, followed by talks with the party’s leaders in Tamil Nadu.
He added that discussions were also held with all-India leaders of the VCK and the Communist parties, and claimed the government was formed through a democratic process with support from Congress, the Muslim League, VCK and Left parties.
Pointing to the hotel where two IUML MLAs were allegedly lodged, Adav said it belonged to DMK MP Jagathrakshakan. He said an inquiry would soon determine who arranged their stay and that the findings would reveal “who is behind it,” reiterating his charge that the DMK was responsible for the horse-trading attempt.
