AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday said his party would register a “big victory” in the forthcoming by-elections, according to party functionaries.
He made the remarks while chairing a meeting of district secretaries at the party headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai. Deputy general secretaries S P Velumani and Natham R Viswanathan did not attend the meeting.
As per the functionaries, Palaniswami alleged that the rival party had won earlier by spreading falsehoods through “reels” and claimed the present government would not last. He said the six constituencies headed for by-elections were seats earlier won by the AIADMK.
He also said voters would not forgive those who resigned their posts and shifted allegiance for money, and urged the party to prepare for the upcoming local body elections. He asked cadres to increase public engagement through protests and street-corner meetings, coordinate with new district secretaries, mobilise youth, and recommend “good representatives” as candidates.
At the meeting, deputy general secretary K P Munusamy reportedly remarked that projecting actor Vijay as a prime ministerial candidate was “the best joke of the year.”
