Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Monday asserted that anyone found guilty will face action, irrespective of which political party they belong to. He said the government’s stand is that everyone is equal before the law.
Speaking in the Assembly after a three-day government holiday break, the Chief Minister said a state’s progress is not decided only by roads and factories. He argued that strong law and order attracts investment and ensures industries function smoothly, adding that the police should be a “trusted friend” to those who respect the law.
During his remarks, Vijay also criticised the tone of political discourse and said people are watching debates live and will judge what to accept and what to reject. He urged parties to avoid degrading women or individuals in personal terms, saying vulgarity and hatred were increasingly being normalised in public life.
Referring to past instances of women leaders facing humiliation in the Assembly, he said such treatment should not be repeated for any woman in the future. The session also saw the DMK seeking an opportunity to speak, after which the Chief Minister asked that they be allowed to do so, and the Speaker considered the request.
