Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Sunday appealed to the public to “join hands with the police” and move forward with trust and harmony to build a Tamil Nadu marked by peace and safety.
In a statement issued on the occasion of Police Day, he recalled that the day commemorates the formation of a modern and organised police system following the enactment of the Madras District Police Act in 1859.
The Chief Minister conveyed Police Day greetings to personnel serving “selflessly” to uphold the rule of law and maintain peace in society. He also lauded the courage and sacrifice of police teams who work to prevent crime, maintain law and order, and protect people’s lives, property and rights even during dangerous situations and disasters.
He said the state government would give priority to reducing the workload of police personnel, improving their efficiency with modern technological facilities, and ensuring welfare measures for police personnel and their families.
Reiterating his appeal, he urged citizens to cooperate with the police and take a pledge to create an “exemplary Tamil Nadu” with peace and security.
