Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore has raised concerns that the Union government is moving to hand over key parts of ISRO to private corporate interests.

In a statement, he said leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi laid the foundation for ISRO with a long-term vision, and that the space agency was built to strengthen the country’s self-reliance.

Tagore alleged that the BJP government is seeking to transfer the hard work and aspirations of Indian scientists to corporate owners, and warned that such a move could undermine the future of ISRO employees.

He also questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen celebrating scientific achievements, but remains silent when scientists write letters seeking protection of their rights. Tagore said the Congress would oppose any attempt to privatise ISRO.
