A US delegation has met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss a possible ceasefire, as the Russia–Ukraine war continues into its fourth year.

The conflict has recently seen an escalation in aerial attacks. Ukraine has been targeting Russia’s energy hubs, and Russia has carried out retaliatory strikes.

According to the report, the Ukrainian attacks have led to a severe fuel shortage in Russia. Russia, which had been exporting crude oil to countries including India, is now facing pressure to meet domestic demand.

As part of efforts to bring the war to an end, the United States sent a peace team to hold talks with both sides. Delegation members Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Putin in Moscow on Saturday.

On Sunday, the same officials met Zelensky in Kyiv, raising expectations that the standoff could move toward a resolution.
