Chennai: Social media platforms are witnessing sharp attacks aimed at actors Rajinikanth, Suriya and Dhanush, with allegations that members of the TVK IT wing and Vijay’s fan groups are driving the campaign.
While online spaces also host constructive discussions, fan wars in Tamil cinema have long spilled over into abuse, observers noted. They said that after Vijay entered politics and later became Chief Minister, a section of his supporters began focusing on political debates, but have now turned their attention towards other leading actors including Rajinikanth, Suriya, Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan.
Some cinema enthusiasts compared the trend to earlier periods when political criticism was met with harsh trolling by party-linked social media teams. They alleged that a similar pattern is now being repeated, with posts crossing limits and targeting not just the actors but also their families, including women, and raising insinuations about personal matters.
They further claimed that much of the abuse is routed through fake accounts, making it difficult to file complaints or seek action, and that actors themselves are reluctant to speak out publicly. The observers said Chief Minister Vijay should rein in the TVK IT wing and fan groups to prevent the issue from escalating.
