RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who is in the United Kingdom in connection with the organisation’s centenary celebrations, addressed a gathering in London on Sunday.
In his remarks, Bhagwat said “unity in diversity” is the core philosophy of Hindu civilisation. He argued that diversity in the world is natural and that people should not be divided by outward differences, but remember the underlying idea of “one world.”
He said the nature of Hindu dharma is to accept different beliefs and forms of worship and live alongside them. Hindu, he added, should not be seen as only a religion or something confined to a specific geography, but as a distinct cultural identity and a way of life.
Bhagwat also said Hindu thought does not treat any single form of worship as the only correct path, and therefore does not create a need to convert others. He maintained that recognising multiple paths to a common goal and living together is central to the tradition.
He concluded that avoiding hatred and hostility can make it easier to find solutions to conflicts.
