DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to hold a key consultation on September 9 to decide whether the party will contest the by-elections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

While seven Assembly seats are currently vacant in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission has announced polls only for these two constituencies. Voting is scheduled to be held on October 6.

The AIADMK has already said it will contest the bypolls and has begun preliminary work, including identifying candidates and distributing application forms to aspirants.

According to sources, Stalin will discuss the ground situation in the two constituencies and the mood of party cadres with district secretaries and senior functionaries. A final decision is expected to emerge after the meeting.
