Mumbai Police have detained two men after they were found behaving suspiciously at the venue of an event to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The programme is scheduled to be held on September 8 at the Nita Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, where security arrangements were in place. During checks, police questioned a man and another person accompanying him.

Police identified the detained man as Rohan Parekh (24). He was carrying an identity card claiming he was an official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), but preliminary verification found the card to be fake.

A firearm was seized from the person who accompanied him. The case has been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch, which is investigating why they came to the venue and what their intent was, including examining their mobile phones and documents.
