Russia has officially confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on September 11, a day before the BRICS summit begins. The announcement was made by the Kremlin.
The BRICS leaders’ summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi on September 12 and 13, with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa among the participating countries. India is hosting the summit for the fourth time.
According to the Kremlin, the summit will take up global and regional issues as well as cooperation among BRICS members. On the sidelines, Putin is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Modi.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow attaches importance to ties with India and noted expanding cooperation across areas such as defence, space, energy, anti-narcotics, science and transport. He added that the agenda is expected to include the proposed sale of Su-57 fighter jets, and that Russia is ready to discuss technology transfer sought by India.
