A Defence Procurement Council meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved the purchase of modern weapons and military equipment worth Rs 1.10 lakh crore to strengthen the combat capability of India’s three services.
Officials from the Defence Ministry said the approved acquisitions include vehicles to detect nuclear-related effects, automated mine-laying systems and advanced light helicopters.
The plan also includes replacing older radars at naval air stations with new “Arudhra” radars.
According to officials, 98% of the total procurement will be made from domestic companies under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
