Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has said a hand gesture made during his speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly was accidental and carried no ulterior motive.
The issue arose during his reply to the police department grant demand in the House on September 7, when he levelled a series of allegations against the DMK. While referring to “MISA”, he tapped his chin as part of his body language.
The gesture quickly became a topic of discussion on social media, with a controversy emerging that it mocked an incident from the MISA period in which former Chief Minister Stalin was allegedly assaulted by the police and suffered a broken jaw. Leaders of the DMK and Communist parties condemned the act.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Vijay said his body language during the reply was expressed inadvertently and should not be interpreted as having any intent. He added that it should not be taken as an action meant to hurt anyone personally.
