New Delhi: India has seen a sharp rise in new company registrations over the last year, with more than 200,000 firms added to the list of active companies, according to data from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
The MCA data shows that between June 2025 and June 2026, the number of active companies increased from 1.92 million to 2.13 million. This represents an 11% year-on-year growth.
Officials said this is the highest single-year increase in the number of active companies in the last 10 years. In percentage terms, it is also the fastest growth in the past five years; a comparable rise was recorded in 2021 when business activity rebounded after the Covid-19 impact.
The growth is also spreading beyond traditional business hubs such as Maharashtra and Delhi, with faster expansion reported in states including Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan’s active companies rose 16% to 77,658, Bihar’s grew 18% to 49,500, and Uttar Pradesh recorded an 18% rise to 187,000 by June 2026.
The data notes that factors such as infrastructure improvements, wider digital access and easing of regulatory processes have expanded opportunities for entrepreneurs.
