Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said leaders of the Communist parties, who he claimed helped the TVK form the government, are now criticising the state’s law-and-order situation.
In an interview, Palaniswami questioned the ruling side’s claim that the Assembly functions for 10 hours a day, alleging that only about three hours are spent discussing public issues while the rest is lost to exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition.
He also alleged that only a few ministers respond to questions in the House and said the Chief Minister did not answer his queries during the police department’s demand for grants.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s remarks that crimes such as murder, robbery and drug sales have existed for a long time, Palaniswami said it is the government’s responsibility to prevent them. He further alleged that prices of essential commodities have risen after the TVK came to power and warned that if the government continues for five years, Tamil Nadu’s debt burden could rise to Rs 20 lakh crore.
