Chief Minister Vijay has directed officials to complete pending drinking water, sewer line and road works before the northeast monsoon begins.
The instruction was issued during a review meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai on precautionary measures for the northeast monsoon. Preparations in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai districts were discussed with ministers and senior officials.
The Chief Minister asked teams comprising ministers and top officials to inspect works in areas affected by flooding in previous monsoon seasons at least twice a week. He said shortcomings identified during inspections should be addressed through timely preventive steps.
He also directed the removal of water hyacinth from waterbodies and called for desilting of canals and stormwater drains. The government said the Chief Minister stressed that all unfinished civic and road works must be wrapped up ahead of the monsoon.
