Russia has welcomed India’s efforts to help end the Russia–Ukraine war, as the conflict nears five years since it began, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
Speaking to Indian journalists via an online interaction, Peskov said Moscow appreciates New Delhi’s willingness to contribute to ending the war. He also said Russia welcomes efforts by US President Donald Trump.
Peskov noted that Russia is aware of India’s position on the Ukraine issue and said the two sides broadly align on the need to find a solution through dialogue and peaceful means. He added that Russia is ready to engage in steps aimed at such a settlement.
The remarks come ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Delhi on September 11, before the BRICS summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Putin, with discussions likely to cover expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy and technology.
