Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has set a goal of weakening the DMK’s overall influence before the upcoming local body elections, according to senior functionaries of the party.
Since launching TVK, its leader Vijay has kept the DMK as the primary political target. Party sources said TVK plans to intensify its attacks over the next three months, repeatedly raising corruption allegations and sharpening its messaging.
Senior TVK office-bearers said the party is currently operating through three parallel structures—government-facing teams, party organisation, and social media managers. A high-level consultation involving key figures from these wings has reportedly mapped out a coordinated plan to take on the DMK more aggressively.
They said the approach has been adjusted after an earlier episode—linked to the arrest of Udhayanidhi, the Leader of the Opposition, over allegations of insulting women—did not play out as expected for TVK. The revised strategy, they claimed, includes revisiting older controversies involving the DMK and targeting areas that the party and its supporters consider strengths.
As part of this, TVK leaders pointed to recent references in the Assembly to the Sarkaria Commission, remarks by minister Nirmal Kumar criticising DMK leader M.K. Stalin over the MISA detention issue, and efforts by the administration—under three ministers—to register corruption cases against former DMK ministers. They also said issues such as the Panchami land dispute linked to the Murasoli office would be brought back into public discussion, with tasks divided across debates, party stages and social media to keep pressure on the DMK until the elections.
