Chennai: Banking services are set to be disrupted for four days following a strike call by bank employee unions, combined with scheduled holidays.
Unions have announced a one-day nationwide strike to press key demands, including granting bank employees weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, and ending what they describe as discriminatory treatment toward non-officer staff.
With the strike falling alongside Friday and the weekend, and Monday being Vinayagar Chaturthi, banks are expected to remain effectively non-operational across the four-day stretch.
All India Bank Officers’ Association (Tamil Nadu) general secretary Roshan Karki said the agitation is being held in two phases, citing alleged bias in incentive payments between senior officials and ordinary employees, and seeking resolution of long-pending demands.
He added that after the one-day symbolic strike, a three-day continuous strike is planned from the 28th to the 30th of the month.
