Delhi has been placed under heightened security ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled for September 12 and 13. Authorities have deployed around 4,800 police personnel across the capital as preparations intensify.
India is hosting the BRICS summit for the fourth time. The grouping includes member countries such as Brazil, Russia, India and China.
According to officials, leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend. With only a few days left, surveillance and security checks have been stepped up across the city.
Traffic restrictions have been implemented on more than 35 roads, and details of diversions have been announced. For passengers heading to the railway station and airport, 22 alternate routes have been listed.
Delhi Traffic Police have advised the public to use the Metro, especially for airport travel and commuting during the summit days. The Delhi Municipal Corporation has also opened a 24-hour control room as part of the arrangements.
