A Delhi court has ordered that a corruption case be registered against former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav in connection with alleged irregularities in leasing railway-owned hotels.
The case relates to the period when Lalu served as Union Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009. During that time, two IRCTC-owned hotels—one in Puri, Odisha, and another in Ranchi, Jharkhand—were leased to Sujata Hotels Private Limited, a Bihar-based firm, and the transaction is alleged to have involved wrongdoing.
The Enforcement Directorate and the CBI have already registered separate cases over the matter. The proceedings are being heard in a trial court in Delhi.
According to the report, the CBI filed a chargesheet on October 13 last year against 11 people including Lalu, Rabri and Tejashwi, and the court took it on record. Now, Special Judge Vishal Gogne of the Rouse Avenue Court has directed registration of a corruption FIR against nine people, a development seen as adding pressure on Tejashwi, who is currently Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition.
