Video statement on detention

DMK leader M.K. Stalin has released a video alleging that he faced severe torture while detained under MISA. He said he still has scars from being beaten in jail and claimed his jaw was broken during the period.

Claims of harsh prison conditions

In the video, Stalin said recent controversies in the Assembly have angered and disappointed people, and that he wanted to clarify his “jail history” because it has been referenced in the debate. He alleged that detainees were kept in a room previously used by leprosy patients, with around 10 people confined in a small space and forced to use the same room for urination, amid a persistent stench.

Allegations of assault and a death in custody

Stalin further alleged that police prevented them from sleeping at night, beat them with lathis and stomped on them with boots. He also claimed that life convicts were used to assault detainees, and said his elder brother, MP Chittibabu, died in prison following such attacks.

Political attack on the Chief Minister

Stalin accused Chief Minister Vijay of making incorrect statements about “Sarkaria Commission” matters and about former CM Karunanidhi, and said the CM repeated what he called politically motivated false allegations. He also said the public would judge governance based on whether promises are fulfilled, adding that his party would continue to “fight” for Tamil Nadu’s development whether in power or not.
