Police in Tamil Nadu are facing difficulty in cracking thousands of property crime cases, including theft, chain-snatching, robbery and mugging, according to official figures.
From January to August this year, the state recorded 4,013 theft incidents. In addition, more than 2,800 cases were reported under categories such as house-breaking theft, chain-snatching, robbery and waylaying.
Based on these incidents, police stations across the state registered a total of 13,924 cases. Of these, 6,981 cases remain unsolved, with investigators yet to trace the accused.
Police officials said investigations have been completed in 6,943 cases up to August and the offenders have been arrested. The remaining cases are under continued investigation, and those involved will be arrested soon, they added.
