Chennai: Prohibition and Excise Minister Vignesh on Tuesday said evidence is being gathered regarding alleged irregularities in TASMAC, and assured that action would be taken.
The minister held a review meeting with district managers at the TASMAC office in Egmore, Chennai. Speaking to reporters later, he said disciplinary action has been initiated from September 1 against employees who sell liquor at prices above the fixed rate.
He added that if a district records repeated or serious violations, action would not be limited to shop staff, but would also extend to the district manager concerned. He also alleged that in the past, some had encouraged collecting extra money per bottle.
Vignesh said there were reports of money being collected at shops using his name, and that cases have been registered against three persons so far. He said action would be taken against anyone found guilty, including officials, and noted that all 11 companies supplying liquor varieties are being treated equally.
Referring to allegations previously raised by the Enforcement Directorate against TASMAC, the minister said the Chief Minister had already placed those details in the Assembly, and reiterated that the current effort is aimed at taking action based on evidence being collected.
