Chennai: TAVEK has announced its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Tamil Nadu, naming Sathyabama for the Dharapuram Assembly constituency and Maragatham Kumaravel for Madurantakam.
Tamil Nadu currently has seven vacant Assembly seats. However, the Election Commission has announced by-polls only for Madurantakam and Dharapuram, as these constituencies do not have election-related cases pending.
The nomination process began on Wednesday, and with the October 6 polling date approaching, parties have started finalising their line-ups. DMK had already announced its candidates for both seats.
TAVEK said both its nominees are former AIADMK members who resigned and later joined TAVEK. In a statement, party leader and Chief Minister Vijay urged cadres to focus on securing votes and work towards a “historic victory.”
Party sources also said the candidate list was released on Thursday, considered an auspicious day as it coincides with Amavasai.
