Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced that every American would receive $5,000 if his party wins the parliamentary elections scheduled for November.
He said the payment would be made only if his party secures a majority in both chambers of Parliament—the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump also stated that the money must be spent entirely within the United States.
The announcement comes ahead of the midterm-style elections held during a president’s term, when seats in Congress and several state and local posts are contested.
Opposition voices and social media users criticised the pledge as an attempt to attract votes. Trump has not yet provided a clear explanation of where the funds would come from to cover payments to all voters in the country.
