DVAC police in Erode have arrested two people, including a sub-registrar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 7 lakh bribe to process a property deed registration.

According to officials, Karthikeyan (47) from Rayarpalayam near Chithode approached the Goundampadi Sub-Registrar Office to complete the registration of his document. He alleged that Sub-Registrar Shankar (42) demanded Rs 7 lakh to proceed.

Following a complaint, a DVAC team led by DSP Shanthi laid a trap at the office. On September 10, around 6.30 pm, Karthikeyan went to the office with the cash.

Investigators said the money was received through a document writer, Vetri (30). DVAC personnel caught the duo red-handed and arrested them. Further inquiry is under way at the sub-registrar office, police said.
